3 DIY Mother's Day Gifts
3 Simple DIY Mother's Day Gifts
It seems that every year, I buy something expensive for my mom. I don't want to spend money on things that my mom might only use once. This year, I asked her what she wanted, and she said anything that was made by me. Okay, but where do I start? I went on Pinterest and picked out a few that looked easy enough to make as an eleven year old. (Not to mention making it with my little brothers too.) Here are 5 DIYs that save your Mother's Day budget.
1. Marbled Coffee Mug
Items needed:
- 1 white coffee mug (can find at the dollar-store)
- two different colored Nail polish bottles (in your mom's favorite colors)
- warm water
- a few toothpicks
- a large bowl (deep enough for your mug to fit in)
- wax paper
Process:
- Take your warm water and fill the bowl 3/4 of the way full.
- Pour your nail polish colors onto the top of the water bowl
- Swirl the polish around with the toothpick
- Dip your mug into the water, and let it stay there for about a minute
- Take your mug out and hold it over the wax paper to let it dry (about 2 minutes). Place the mug on the table and let it dry overnight. Once it dries, you have your gift!
2. Shrinky Dink Picture Keychains
Items:
- 2-3 pieces of Shrinky Dink original frosted Ruff N' Ready paper
- Pictures of all kids in the family (picture day pictures work the best)
- Thin black sharpie
- Hole puncher
- Scissors
- 10 mm jump rings
- Lobster claw hooks (cheap on Amazon)
Process:
- Put the Shrinky Paper on top of the picture. Trace the face of the picture with the thin sharpie.
- Pre-heat the oven to 350
- Cut the tracing out, but leave a little space at the top for a hole punch to go in. Punch the top of the tracing.
- Repeat steps 1-2 until all kids are created
- Put all Shrink Papers on a cookie sheet and bake it. While it is baking, watch your pictures shrivel and shrink. Once they look like they are finished, take the out and let them cool.
- To assemble your keychains, take the ring and attach it to the bottom of the lobster hook. Ring your shrunken pictures through the ring, and voila!
3. Shrinky Dink Hand-Prints
Items:
- 2-3 pieces of Crystal Clear Shrinky Dink Paper
- 1-5 different acrylic Paint colors (according to how many kids there are in the fam)
- A thick paint brush
- Sharp Scissors
- Regular black sharpie
- 10 mm jump rings
- Lobster Claw Hooks
Process:
- Preheat the oven to 350
- Paint one hand with the acrylic paint and paint brush. Fully cover hand.
- Stamp the painted hand onto the Shrinky Dink Paper, let paint dry.
- Cut out hand print, flip the cut-out over and write child's name and age on the back.
- Hole punch the cut-out somewhere on the hand
- Repeat steps 2-5 until you have all kids done.
- Bake Shrinky Dinks. Watch them shrivel and shrink. Once they look like they're ready, take them out and let them dry.
- To assemble your keychain, look back at the #2 tutorial. Ring your handprints through the ring, and it's done!
